Watford are currently going through a transition process under the tutelage of Marco Silva who was handed the charge after the departure of Walter Mazzarri. The Hornets have so far confirmed three arrivals but Silva is expected to rope in a couple of more players to keep the balance of the side intact.
According to reports, Watford are interested in Napoli left-back Ivan Strinic. The Croatian started just 12 games last season and may have to move in search of more game time.
The Hornets had a quite horrific time when it came to defending last season. They conceded 68 goals and were very fortunate to give the relegation a miss. Silva has been aware of the current situation and has realised that he needs to tighten up the defence.
Faouzi Ghoulam has been a sensation in the last season and Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri is very satisfied with his performance. He is likely to be the preferred choice in the next season too so Strinic might have to look for an alternative club.
The 29-year old came through the ranks of Croatian side HNK Hajduk Split and spent loan stints at a couple of clubs before coming back to his parent club in 2008. He moved to Ukrainian side Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk in 2011 and it was his performance on the Ukranian soil that led to his move to the Italian side.
Predominantly a left back, the Croatian international can also be deployed on the left wing. He has 39 caps for his country and will be looking to clinch a place on the flight to Russia keeping in mind, the World Cup next year.
Currently, Watford have only one proper left back in Jose Holebas. But the Greece international is 33 and might not be the same player that he is used to be.
Crystal Palace was linked with the player when Sam Allardyce was at the helm of the club. The former England manager was very eager to bring the player to the Selhurst Park but failed in his attempt.
Strinic has the option to extend his contract but with the current situation, he is not in the mood to play second fiddle, so a move is anticipated. Napoli would happily let him go if the Premier League club matches their price.
Watford have shown recently they have the financial muscle to spend so it won’t be a big issue for them. But is he the right man for them next season?
