With Brighton looking to strengthen their squad before the start of the Premier League season next month, I look at two players they have been linked that would be great additions to The Seagulls squad.
Marcus Coco:
The Frenchman is a product of Guingamp’s youth academy and broke into their first team in 2015. Since 2015, he has appeared 55 times for the Ligue 1 side and scored five goals, two of which he scored last season against Lyon in a 3-1 win. The winger has also been capped eight times for the France U21’s but has failed to score.
Coco would be a great addition to Brighton’s squad as from what I have seen he possesses an abundance of pace and has experience of playing in the French top flight with Guingamp. One of the worries with the Frenchmen is that he has not scored a lot of goals in his 55 appearances with just the five goals, but this may well improve in a Brighton team where the wingers usually chip in with their fair share of goals. The only other worry is the competition from other sides who are looking to get Coco’s signature and the potential cost of £10 million, Brighton could well be priced out of the deal.
From what I have seen, Coco seems to be a very versatile player as he can play on either wing and can also play upfront.
Robert Snodgrass:
A couple of days ago, The Telegraph reported that Brighton and Sunderland wanted the 29-year-old winger. Snodgrass is reported to be surplus to requirements at West Ham due to him failing to impress for West Ham since joining them from Hull in January for £10.2 million. In a West Ham shirt, he has made 15 appearances and failed to find the back of the net. This is different from his international career with Scotland where he has made 23 appearances for his country, scoring six goals.
Snodgrass would be a great signing for Brighton as although he does not have the pace that Brighton’s other wingers have, he has a great shot on him and is a superb set piece taker. Also, when I have watched Snodgrass he strikes me as a playmaker so he could quite easily play in an attacking midfield role.
Whilst these reports are only speculative, it would be great to see either or both playing for Brighton, but the transfer market seems to be very competitive and quite unpredictable. There is no doubt, from the media that Brighton are actively looking for players and it will be interesting to see come the end of the transfer window how the squad will shape up.
