Brighton and Hove Albion have finally made it to the Premier League this season and are looking to make a mark in what is going to be their debut season in the top tier of English football. They are well aware of the fact that they will have to face some of the biggest teams, that are considered to be the very best in not only England but all over Europe in the form of Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and defending champions Chelsea in the next season, and will have to prepare a team which can take them head on.
The Seagulls, as they are known to their fans, are looking to bring in players who have a good experience of playing in the Premier League for the last few seasons and can help the team’s performance in the new season when brought into the squad. One such player, who is right on the top of the list for the coach of Brighton, Chris Hughton, is Robert Snodgrass, currently playing as an attacking midfielder for West Ham United.
The Scottish attacker joined the Hammers last season in the January transfer window and was brought into the squad more as a replacement for the talismanic French midfielder Dimitri Payet, who left the club to join the Ligue 1 club Marseille. Snodgrass was brought in from the then Premier League outfit Hull City and had performed exceptionally well for them in the first half of the last season and the season prior to that.
However, he was unable to demonstrate glimpses of the form that he showed for the Tigers during his tenure at the London Stadium and is on the verge of being offloaded in the summer transfer market. Reportedly, a price tag of £8 million has been slapped on the player by the Hammers, who used him only 15 times throughout the season, in which he was not able to score a single goal for his side.
Now that the Hammers are looking to let go of the player, it has irked interests from quite a few clubs from the Premier League as well as the Championship, with Brighton and Sunderland, who have been relegated in the last season, leading the race to bag the 29-year old Scottish international for the next season in an attempt to revamp their squad.
The winger, however, might prefer to stay back in the Premier League in the next season as well and might choose Brighton over Sunderland.
