West Ham United have been looking forward to presenting a strong challenge to the opposing teams in the Premier League by revamping their side for the next season and bringing in some of the players from all over Europe who has been playing well in the last few seasons for their respective clubs. However, they have not been able to land any player so far in the summer transfer window and are eyeing one of the top strikers in European football in the form of Raul Jimenez.
The Mexican forward, who has been playing for the Portuguese club Benfica and helped them become the champions of the Primeira Liga in the last season, has been one of the most wanted marksmen in the summer. Reportedly, Liverpool are also having a firm interest in the player and is looking to bring him into Anfield for the next season, thus making the job difficult for the Hammers to secure the signature of their desired target.
The 26-year-old striker has been one of the biggest influences behind the great season that his club had in the domestic league, and has attracted a lot of interests from a number of clubs from all over Europe apart from Liverpool and West Ham United. He has said that he is interested in making a move to the Premier League, but will not take any step without discussing with his current club.
The Mexican marksman joined Benfica from the Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid, where he spent a season after moving from Club America. He struggled to impress for the Spanish outfit and scored only a single goal in 28 appearances that he made for them. He left the club in the very next season, precisely in 2014, and came to the Portuguese outfit for a club record fee of £18 million.
At Benfica, he made his skills talk and showed that he’s completely worth the money invested in him. He has made 77 appearances so far and has scored 23 times for his club in all competitions, and has also assisted his teammates eight times in the last few seasons to make a wholesome contribution to his team.
West Ham United have been short of firepower in the last season, with their influential midfielder Dimitri Payet leaving the London Stadium in January to join the French club Marseille. The strikers Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho have also been out of form and might be offloaded if there are good enough offers for them in the summer.
