Crystal Palace are pondering over a move for Ajax side-back Kenny Tete. Newly appointed manager Frank de Boer is very determined to throw his weight behind the team by making some high profile signings.
Sam Allardyce shocked everyone by submitting his resignation after the completion of last season. ‘Big Sam’ was thought to be in the long term plans of the Palace hierarchy but his departure paved the way for de Boer who was sacked by Inter Milan earlier for his poor show with the Nerazzurri.
Mamadou Sakho had a very successful spell at Selhurst Park but Liverpool have slapped a hefty price tag of £30m on the player which has compelled the club to shift their focus to other options. Sakho was very convincing in his stint but the Eagles have failed to reach a deal with the Reds who have a very tough stand on this issue.
Palace have been hovering in the transfer market in the search of a new defender as they are currently short of options in the right back section. Both Martin Kelly and Joel Ward were average last season so the necessity of adding a right back to the side makes sense.
Tete is currently plying his trade with Ajax. The exciting right back has only a year left on his contract so it would be the most viable time for the Dutch side to cash in on him. The defender will be available for a cheap amount so a move might be on the cards.
Palace are likely to face stiff competition from Lyon. The French side have been on a spending spree and Tete is one of their targets. Tete has been given permission to have a break from Ajax’s ongoing camp in Austria as the defender is considering his next move.
Boer has a rough idea of the player having worked with him in 2015. The young right back made his debut under his guidance and the player will certainly take that into consideration whilst deciding his next club.
Ajax had a £3m fee agreed with Galatasaray but the player backed out from the move as he wanted to play in a more competitive league. Palace are also targeting Joel Veltman as Boer is confident of pulling off a double swoop.
Tete’s versatility is somewhat worth watching out for. The youngster can be deployed anywhere in defence and Boer would be oozing with excitement to work with the player at the Selhurst Park.
