For Borussia Dortmund forward Andre Schurrle, it hasn’t really been quite a comfortable journey since he moved to the Westfalenstadion last summer, becoming the most expensive player in the club’s history by overtaking Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The transfer met with a series of criticism by the fans and experts alike, mostly because of the enormous transfer fee of 30 million euros. At the end, it seems as if the German International has really failed to live up to the expectations, scoring just five goals and providing four assists in 25 appearances in all competitions.
Injuries played a big part hindering his progress. In 2016/17 season alone, the attacker faced four different injury problems with a back trouble, twice a twisted knee and an Achilles irritation, all of them combined, which kept him out for exactly 100 days last season. Never before did he have such an injury breakdown in his career.
Considering Dortmund’s busy work in the transfer market, where they have already signed swift attacker Maximilian Philipp from SC Freiburg for 20 million euros and with the uprising form of youngsters such as Ousmane Dembele and Christian Pulisic, it’s really doubtful whether Schurrle will get frequent first team opportunities for Dortmund next season.
So the former Chelsea starlet should actually be planning to move back to his old stomping ground – that is the Premier League.
As we all have witnessed before, Andre Schurrle is a top notch attacker, who has shone in almost every club and League he’s played for. He was a telling factor for Bayer Leverkusen in their rise to the Bundesliga five-six years ago, helping them secure Champions League spots in both the seasons.
In Chelsea, Schurrle also had a telling impact, especially in the 2013-14 season, where he scored eight goals and provided a couple of assists. All of his eight goals proved to be vital for the Blues, as they sealed a Champions League place.
At just 26 years of age, one might think that Schurrle has a lot to offer still, given the fact he is a proven talent who also plays a crucial part for his national team.
Many Premier League teams are seeking for a decent winger in the market this summer and Schurrle might just be the one that they are looking for. His sharp movement and pacey nature of play make him the perfect player to embrace the Premier League. And he has shown that in the past with Chelsea as well.
He can be a great signing for Everton, who have already shown frightening intent, making four major signings this summer, which include, Davy Klaassen, Michael Keane, Jordan Pickford and striker Sandro Ramirez.
Given the Toffee’s interest in Karim Bellarabi of Bayer Leverkusen, it’s clearly evident that Ronald Koeman is looking for a winger who can complement Davy Klaassen and Ross Barkley in offensive positions in order to provide more support to striker Sandro.
