Next season is going to be huge for Arsenal. From where they have managed to finish last season, the historic North London side could either go up or down. The kind of urgency, which the wild outrage and unfavourable results, have managed to trigger from the club board should have come much earlier.
Now, although the desperate need for instant success will surely bring in big names to the side, failure to achieve it could result in a disaster as we have often seen with once big clubs like AC Milan, Inter Milan, Liverpool and more.
Arsene Wenger has extended his contract by two years at the end of last season and the Frenchman knows exactly how he wishes to leave the club. He has taken up the onus of recruiting players himself with some grand plans next season. With Manchester City and Manchester United bringing in Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho last year, it has resulted in the influx of numerous star arrivals in the Premier League and matching them shoulder to shoulder would mean Arsenal going down the same line as well.
However, despite Arsenal managing to get big names this summer, the responsibility for the perfect start would primarily need to be shouldered by the side’s veterans. Here are 3 Arsenal players who need to perform this season-
Aaron Ramsey- One of the most underrated midfielders in the Premier League, the Welshman had a poor season last term. A slow start and recurrent injuries kept him on the sidelines till the very end. Ramsey did make a return and he made sure Arsenal end their terrible season with a silverware as he headed home the winner in the FA Cup final against Chelsea. Wenger’s four-man midfield has really brought out the best from him and we hope he starts firing on all cylinders from the beginning next season.
Shkodran Mustafi- The German international has been of those players who hardly took any time to fit into the Arsenal squad. He arrived last season when Arsenal had already lost their opening game to Liverpool and had drawn one against Leicester City. And unlike Lucas Perez, he was thrown into the middle with a lot at stake. He performed brilliantly, and now with a year of experience in his pocket, Mustafi should step up.
Hector Bellerin- The Spaniard has been a hot prospect in the summer transfer market with Barcelona putting him on their priority list. Although he still retains the stature among big clubs, it is true that he saw a large slump in form last season and with Wenger having no other options in his position to replace. The reluctance might have seeped in but, he could be rest assured that yet another similar display and the club isn’t giving him any more chances.
