If reports are to be believed Hector Bellerin’s agent has been to trying to figure out a sensational return to Barcelona for his client. The right back has been a priority for the Catalans in the summer as they are planning to freshen up their squad.
Bellerin is currently on a long-term contract and Arsenal will be very reluctant to let him join the Spanish giants. Since moving to the North London side in 2011, the Spanish international has been a vital part of the Gunners set up.
Barcelona endured a tough campaign as they failed to fill in Dani Alves’ void properly as the Brazilian went to join Italian champions Juventus in the last summer. Despite the arrival of Aleix Vidal from Sevilla, Luis Enrique had to juggle between Vidal and Sergi Roberto and nobody has been able to reach that needed quality. Bringing a proper right back is a priority of newly appointed manager Ernesto Valverde.
It would take a significant transfer fee for the Blaugrana if they really want to see the player in the Barcelona jersey. Bellerin remains tightlipped about his future but a reunion at the Camp Nou might sound tempting to him as the idea of a return to his home state would be of worth every penny.
The North Londoners have had a mixed last season as they finished outside of the top four for the first time in two decades. They did manage to win the FA Cup by getting the better of Chelsea but overall the season did not shape up the way everyone had hoped.
Bellerin’s future could have taken a new twist had Arsene Wenger not signed a new contract. But now the gaffer has renewed his stay, the Spanish defender might decide to stay back under his guidance.
Barcelona are not ready to wait too long as they have the fear of losing their other targets. The Catalans have secured long-term contracts for Neymar and Luis Suarez and are on the verge of sealing a new deal for Lionel Messi. So financially they might feel the strain and therefore they are not ready to shell money beyond a certain point.
Barcelona are ready with a possible alternative for Bellerin as they are tracking Benfica right-back Nelson Semedo. They have identified the Portuguese as a backup option and should they fail they reach a contract they will go ahead with their plans.
Bellerin signed a new lucrative deal last year and the Gunners need some heavy convincing to part their ways with the 21-year-old which seems to be very slim.
