Leicester City ended the last season in the tenth position on the League table, a rather unsatisfactory performance from last season’s defending champions of the Premier League. However, they are looking to put the disappointment behind and make another attempt at doing the unthinkable in the next term under the tutelage of the new manager Craig Shakespeare and new assistant manager Michael Appleton, who has been brought in from Oxford United.
The Foxes are looking for a number of new players who might come in as replacements for players who might be departing in the summer transfer window owing to the disappointing finish of the last season. One of them might be the Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who has been looking to make a move away from the King Power Stadium in the next season and has a number of suitors looking to bag him in the summer. This has reportedly prompted the Foxes to take evasive measures and find a new goalkeeper in the summer.
Leicester City reportedly have their eyes fixed on Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone for the next season, as they are looking to make the English shot stopper one of their top targets in the summer. The 24-year-old has been playing in the Championship in the last season, after being sent on loan by the Red Devils to Aston Villa. The young goalkeeper has been in good form throughout the season for Aston Villa and has been able to attract a number of clubs from the Premier League as well as the Championship.
As per sources, apart from Leicester, West Bromwich Albion and Huddersfield Town are also interested in signing the young shot-stopper, who might not be a part of the first team for United this term as well.
Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner is aware of the fact he might not get his goalkeeper from the last season Danny Ward, whose heroics led them to beat Reading on penalties and head into the Premier League, as Liverpool have already made the decision of retaining their goalkeeper for the new season and is looking to bag the Manchester United shot-stopper for the next season.
While Middlesbrough and Aston Villa are also ready to offer permanent contracts to the 24-year old for the next season, the Foxes are looking like the favourites to bag Johnstone for the next season and make him stand under the crossbars on a regular basis.
