Huddersfield Town have made a major signing in the form of Aaron Mooy, the Australian striker from his former club Manchester City. The player has been associated with the Terriers in the last season and had played a major part in their Championship playoff win, by virtue of which they found a place to compete in top flight football this season.
The 26-year-old Aussie has been a strong influence in the Huddersfield squad in the last term, making 51 appearances for them throughout the season. The Manchester City forward was left on loan for some first team exposure with the Terriers and it proved really fruitful for him. He scored four goals for the team and set up seven assists for his teammates to score goals and made it a thoroughly successful season for his team in the last term, helping them to clinch promotion to the top tier after a wait of 45 long years.
Reportedly, Huddersfield Town have secured the service of the striker on a permanent basis on a deal worth £8 million, which is termed as an initial price and can go up to £10 million in the case of additional contingencies. Though the player is an Australian by birth and plays for their national side, he also holds a Dutch passport by virtue of his mother’s heritage and thus is in need of no work permit to play in the Premier League.
He has been entitled to a deal which will see the player stay with the club till 2020 and also has a clause to extend the deal by one more season if required.
The man in charge at the Kirklees Stadium, David Wagner, has evidently been delighted by the signing of the striker, who has played such a big role in their promotion clinching season in the Championship in the last season. He has not tried to keep his elation a matter of secrecy and has said that the side will be hugely benefitted by Mooy’s arrival. The German mastermind has also added that it has been a real pleasure to work with the Australian star in the last season, and it will continue to work the same way in the forthcoming future as he has now agreed to a permanent deal with the club.
The Aussie has been a huge fan favourite in the last term owing to his heroics and will continue to be the one on whom the supporters will rely to get them out of trouble in the forthcoming season as well.
