Leicester City have shown their interest in Borussia Monchengladbach attacker Thorgan Hazard. Hazard had a very eventful last season as the Belgian playmaker netted six goals in 23 appearances in the Bundesliga.
Hazard is currently having a gala time in the German top tier but he might feel the need to have more first team opportunities to develop his game and a move from the Borussia Park is quite possible. The 24-year-old is contracted with the German club till 2019 but if he opts for a move, the German side would not hesitate to sell him if a right offer comes their way.
The younger brother of Chelsea winger Eden Hazard was with the Stamford Bridge outfit for a while but hasn’t donned the Blues’ shirt for a single time. After failing to find a permanent place for the youngster, Chelsea sent him on loan to various clubs.
He was at Borussia for two seasons on loan and following two successful campaigns the German club decided to reward the player by sealing a £5.9m permanent move for him. Hazard has been shining in the Borussia colours for the last few seasons but hasn’t been able to nail down a permanent spot which has made him consider his options.
Leicester City are destined to lose Riyad Mahrez who has already handed the club a transfer request. The Foxes need to find an alternative and have identified Hazard as a potential candidate. Craig Shakespeare wants to add a couple of forwards after the disastrous last season as he is seeking more options upfront.
Chelsea reportedly had inserted a buy-back option in the contract but the German club has been denying it since Hazard made his move to Germany. Monchengladbach finished last season at a disappointing ninth place and the ambition and intention of the club could play a key role in this move.
The club is unlikely to retain the player for the long term and would rather like to recoup a sizeable profit on their investment. West Ham United and Stoke City are also chasing the player according to reports. Both the clubs currently lack an edge in the attacking department and would love to add the player to their respective side.
However, Leicester are yet to lodge a formal offer for the player which might make his move very vulnerable. Hazard’s pace and work rate are very convincing and if given ample amount of time he could take the place of Mahrez at the King Power Stadium.
