Chelsea are leading the race to sign Juventus left-back Alex Sandro. The Blues saw their previous offer rejected by the Serie A giants but are ready to take their interest forward with an improved bid of £61m for the Brazilian international.
Sandro has emerged as one of the most prolific defenders in the European circuit since his arrival in Italy from Porto. The Brazilian has been an important part of the Juventus side that has won almost every trophy available in Italy in the last two seasons.
Chelsea did make a bid of around £55.2m for the Brazilian wingback but were told that the West London side have to increase their offer to get the player. Conte’s interest in the player is not unknown as the Italian has been demanding a decent upgrade on Marcos Alonso who had a very positive first season at the Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are lagging way behind their competitors in this heavily inflated transfer market which has been a concern for Conte. The Italian gaffer who was expected to sign a new contract has delayed the proceedings over this current situation. They have been linked with a number of players but are yet to register any concrete efforts so far which has enraged the Italian gaffer.
Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko could be the first signing of this summer for the Blues. The French midfielder is due to undergo a medical with the club as both the clubs have agreed to a £37m deal for the French international.
Chelsea’s effort to sign Sandro could face a huge hindrance as both Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly plotting an offer for the player. Pep Guardiola has a dearth of fullbacks currently and would want to tempt the club with a sizeable offer for the left back.
PSG are also very enthusiastic about the fullback and are expected to make a significant offer for the player. Chelsea have been vigorously working on the deal and are hoping that an agreement can be reached in the next few days.
A £100m swoop for both Bakayoko and Sandro can be finalised soon as Conte wants to bring the players in before pre-season starts. The Italian lifted the title in his maiden season and would be hoping to repeat the feat in the next campaign.
Juventus have already stated that if a proper offer comes they won’t stand in his way and it seems Chelsea are ready to take the charge to make him the most expensive defender of all time.
