After helping Everton to the 7th place in the Premier League last season, Ronald Koeman seems to be a man on a mission as he is now trying to help the Merseyside outfit compete, not just for a place in Europe, but also for a place in the Champions League. The likes of Davy Klaassen and Jordan Pickford have already added quality to the first team and though Koeman still needs a proper replacement for the outgoing Romelu Lukaku, he is also looking to improve the depth in the squad.
English news outfit Telegraph have now revealed that Everton are keeping tabs on Sheffield United star David Brooks and are looking to bring him to the Goodison Park this summer. The 19-year old was the star of the Toulon tournament recently, scoring the winner for the English U21 side, after switching his allegiances from Wales.
A product of the Manchester City Academy, Brooks joined Sheffield in 2015 but is yet to make a senior appearance for the side till date. The previous year, he spent two months on loan at Halifax Town, making five appearances and scoring one goal.
Known for his strength, pace and dribbling abilities, Brooks is an attacking midfielder who has also shown decent form when played on the wings. He has a goal on his debut in the FA Cup and is always a threat in the final third.
Though his height is a disadvantage, certainly in the Premier League, his ability with the ball at his feet is what makes him a tempting addition to the squad for Everton. He is not expected to play in the first team next season but Koeman is building for the future like he has done at most of his previous clubs, and Brooks could be one who could come good in years to come.
It is nothing new for the club themselves to pick such untrained youngsters to turn them into superstars at the highest stage. Manchester City defender John Stones is a prime example and Mason Holgate is a more recent specimen that fits the bill.
At 19, Brooks has a bright future ahead and though he will not get first team football yet at Everton, he will surely get enough game time under his belt to help him grow under the Dutch manager. With the club ready to spend millions on top transfer targets, it is quite easy to forget to build the youth at the club and Brooks could be Everton’s answer for this summer.
