While Arsenal fans are very much acquainted with the kind of frustration they are experiencing now, their expectations wouldn’t endure such an extreme stretch this time for sure after the lofty promises the manager and the club owner made after the season ended.
Wenger extending the contract by two years despite many disapprovals has left the fans fuming with anger and the Frenchman, more than anyone else, is very much aware of the fact. After dropping out of the top four for the first time in Wenger’s reign, the Frenchman has decided to come out of his restricted approach announcing that the club would go for world class players this summer.
And the manner in which Arsenal’s domestic rivals have strengthened over the years, the North London club is bound to go out of the competition if they don’t follow suit. Here are 3 players Arsenal should sign before kicking off next season.
Serge Aurier- The position of right-back is hugely understaffed at the Emirates with Mathieu Debuchy and Carl Jenkinson both potential departures in the coming weeks. Hector Bellerin remains the only viable option for Wenger and his inconsistency and reluctance at times will force the manager to bring in the right competition in that position.
And Aurier could be a brilliant option for the Gunners by all means. The 24-year-old has been one of the important players for Paris Saint-Germain over the past few season and his terrific aggression on the right defensive position makes him a perfect fit to compete with Bellerin.
Alexandre Lacazette- This is perhaps the only target Arsenal look close to getting as of now. With Lucas Perez outgoing this summer, Arsenal would need an extra pair of legs up front to support Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud. And Lacazette looks like a decent option in that position. The 25-year-old possesses immense work rate and prolific goal scoring abilities, just as Wenger likes.
Lyon have already announced that they are selling their striker as soon as they get a replacement and Arsenal’s continuous link with the player means they are in the driver’s seat. Scoring 28 goals in 20 Ligue 1 appearances, his conversion rate is as good as Kylian Mbappe.
Mario Lemina- Despite having a plethora of midfielders in the squad already, Arsenal would still need reinforcements for next season. With Jack Wilshere seemingly leaving the Emirates this summer, Arsenal would need to bring in a replacement, and Wenger wouldn’t want a like for like option this time.
Alongside Granit Xhaka, Arsenal have missed someone who would keep constant pressure on the opponent and liberate the Swiss international. Cazorla’s injury and Ramsey and Coquelin’s inconsistency has cost Arsenal big time last season and Lemina could be a perfect addition to give them competition.
