Swansea City fans would love to forget this season. The Welsh club was on the edge of the relegation for most of the season but Paul Clement’s managerial vision did wonders for the Swans as they managed to stay afloat in the Premier League for another year.
Until Clement’s arrival, it was looking very tough as the past two managers, Francesco Guidolin and Bob Bradley had put the team on a heated burner. But Clement started to build his own squad slowly and steadily.
Clement fully changed the style of play and introduced a strategy focusing on the strengths of Fernando Llorente and Gylfi Sigurdsson. Four victories in the last five matches including a commendable draw against Manchester United helped them in finishing 15th in a difficult season.
Let us take a look at 3 players they can possibly target in the summer.
Joe Ledley
With the current squad, Swansea shouldn’t have flirted with relegation. Sigurdsson has been quite brilliant for the Swans leading single-handedly from the deep. But the performances of Ki Sung-yueng and Leon Britton will be one of the deepest concerns for Clement.
Sigurdsson needs a strong physical presence alongside him in the midfield and Joe Ledley would be a fantastic addition to the team. The midfielder has been released by Crystal Palace and the chance to play in his homeland might tempt him for a move.
Ledley loves to revitalise the team with his passing and vision of the game. His inclusion will let Sigurdsson link up freely with the attacking players.
Wilfried Bony
Borja Baston proved to be a burden on the team as the former Atletico Madrid forward struggled to establish himself in the Premier League. Baston was brought for a massive £15.5m but his failure has left Clement with very little option. With Fernando Llorente in his late thirties, the manager could turn his attention to their ex-forward Wilfried Bony.
The forward has been put up for sale by Manchester City and Clement could bring him back to the Liberty Stadium. A familiar environment might be able to bring out the best in him. He was hugely popular with the supporters and Clement could help him revive his career.
Martin Caceres
The Uruguayan had a very short stint with Southampton. In Alfie Mawson and Federico Fernandez, Clement has one of the best defensive pairs in the Premier League but the gaffer would be looking to add at least a centre-back in the summer.
Caceres is currently a free agent and if a suitable deal is offered we could see him donning the Swans shirt for the next season.
