Liverpool are one of the many clubs that are on a search for the finest attacking talents in world football to add to their squad this summer. The Reds have been linked with a number of star players recently and one player they continue to be linked with is Real Madrid star Marco Asensio.
The Spanish international has been one of the most impressive youngsters on show in Europe, picking up 10 goals and four assists in 38 appearances in all competitions, most of them coming off the bench. Zinedine Zidane is planning some wholesale changes to the squad at the Bernabeu and this might push Asensio further down the pecking order.
So reports from Spanish news outfit Dario Gol claim that the 21-year old is ready to listen to offers from other clubs, with Liverpool and Arsenal reportedly interested in his services. The Reds also had a £43million bid rejected for his services this summer but it is understood that Jurgen Klopp is interested in bringing the Spanish sensation to the club this summer.
The German manager is already close to signing Mohamed Salah from AS Roma for around £35m and is expected to play Sadio Mane and Salah on the wings next season. The duo does not have a genuine winger for backup in the squad and that is the only position that is open for Asensio at Anfield at the moment.
A mind-blowing dribbler with breathtaking finishing to his name, Asensio is a strong and athletic player who has mastered the art of hold up play in the final third. He is a specialist in dead ball situations and his versatility and ability to play in almost every role in the attack, makes him a much more attractive transfer target this summer.
At just 21, he is has shown great improvement in the last couple of seasons and is easily one of the most influential and exciting attackers in Spain at the moment. The Reds also have the likes of Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana, who can fill in on the wing and there is no reason for them to spend on Salah and Asensio this summer.
The Egyptian international has not yet signed for Liverpool and Asensio at the moment should not be anything more than a backup plan. He is exciting and has the ability to help Liverpool score goals at the highest stage next season, but they need a slightly more established star if they are to win a title next season.
