After pulling off a mini-revival in the business end of last season, Craig Shakespeare has been named as the head coach for the new season by Leicester City. The Englishman did a great job at the very end of the last season after taking the charge of the team following the sacking of Claudio Ranieri and is looking to build on that success in the new season to give his team a head start, by bringing in reinforcements into the squad.
One of the players who has been eyed by the new coach of the Foxes is the Northern Ireland international Jonny Evans, who has been the spine of the backline for West Bromwich Albion in the last season. The Baggies had a fairly good season, especially at the Hawthorns in the last term, thanks to a large part to the heroics of the Irishman, who made his strong presence felt at the heart of the defence throughout the campaign.
Shakespeare wants to make sure that his area of problem, the defence, is properly dealt with in the forthcoming season and his team can be able to keep the opposition strikers at bay most of the times. He is supposed to be duly supported by the newly appointed assistant boss Michael Appleton from Oxford United as well.
Evans has been one of the most experienced campaigners in the Premier League and has played for the former Premier League champions Manchester United as well in their backline with complete dominance. Since his joining the West Brom line-up, he has been trying his level best to make sure that he is able to keep hold of the defence together and thus give the Baggies a world of solidarity under the careful observation of their manager Tony Pulis.
Reportedly, the Foxes have already faced failure in their first attempt to bag the Irishman, as an initial bid of £10 million were rejected by West Bromwich Albion in the last week. It has been confirmed from the Baggies point of view that their prized defender is going to cost much more than that and Leicester needs to up their ante in order to bag the player for the next season.
Shakespeare has already started early rebuilding for the next season by signing Harry Maguire from the relegated side Hull City and is looking to bring in Evans as the partner for the highly rated defender. This might also be an indication towards the ending of the tenure for the defensive duo of Wes Morgan and Robert Huth at Leicester.
