Barcelona have stepped up their interest in Borussia Dortmund’s Ousmane Dembele. The Catalans have reportedly made contact with his agent over a potential transfer to the Nou Camp. The Blaugrana hierarchy are very adamant to shrug off their last year’s difficulties as they have been planning meticulously for this season.
Dembele excelled in the Bundesliga as the French teenager enlightened the German top tier with his excellent performances. The French teenager has been the subject of interest in the last summer from the Catalans but he preferred to stay at the Signal Iduna Park for more exposure.
His brilliant display for Die Borussen earned him a call up to the French senior team. He netted ten goals and assisted further twenty-one for the German side as they romped to their first piece of silverware in the last five years. The 20-year-old has been an inevitable part of the Dortmund side and would like to play a more influential role in the next season.
Thomas Tuchel played a big part in Dembele’s acquisition from Rennes last summer but with Tuchel leaving the club the teenager might give it a second thought. He formed a very reliable partnership with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but the latter now is on the verge of departing from the club and Dembele could follow the suit.
Dembele is fast, can dribble past a number of players with his lightweight physique and can be an asset for the Catalans’ possession-based system. He has also worked on several aspects of his game which has made him an even more dangerous player than before. BVB
BVB rate the youngster very highly and wouldn’t want to part ways with him anytime soon and their demand in excess of £80m shows exactly that.
But if he does move to the Nou Camp he won’t be able to secure an imminent place in the starting lineup. Currently, Barcelona have one of the fiercest attacking lineups in the world. The likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez are currently irreplaceable in the team and Dembele has to wait for his turn.
Barcelona will have to break the bank to entice the player to Spain. Regular football would be a matter of consideration and a player like Dembele wouldn’t want to compromise on that. Ernesto Valverde will be looking for that X-factor next season and Dembele could certainly provide that.
Certainly, a transfer saga to look forward to this summer.
