According to Sunday Mirror, Southampton are ready to battle it out with Liverpool to sign Borussia Dortmund attacker Emre Mor on loan next season. The Turkish International was told by Dortmund that he could leave in search of first-team football next season.
Following speculations surrounding Dusan Tadic’s future at the St. Mary’s, and the topsy-turvy debut season performance from new man Sofiane Boufal, it’s only understandable that the Saints are in the market for another attacker this upcoming summer transfer window and Emre Mor has been identified as a perfect option for Southampton.
The Saints have struggled to perform on a consistent basis this season under Claude Puel, who was good in some particular games but lacked the consistency throughout the course of the season, which led to his sacking just a week ago. Despite finishing eighth in the table, Southampton have failed to showcase their offensive qualities as they have scored the least goals(41), among the top 12 while also conceding the most goals(48) among the top eight in the table.
Dusan Tadic hasn’t been able to help his team in the offensive department while newcomer Sofiane Boufal has failed to make a bigger impact after coming in from Lille last summer. So the club desperately needs a new attacker in the team and that’s where Emre Mor comes into play.
Naturally, Mor is an exceptionally gifted dribbler who averages 4.4 dribbles per game. He is a fearless character and is always willing to perform against any given team on any given day. His aggressive mindset is perfect for the nature of the Premier League and he is always on the lookout for the defence breaking pass in order to breach the opposition. With the likes of Manolo Gabbiadini and Shane Long in the squad, it could be the perfect environment for the Turkish International to take his next step.
Southampton are known for their ability to nurture young talents. Players like Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne, Sadio Mane have all stamped their authority in Southampton before moving to bigger clubs. The same can be also expected for Emre Mor, who is willing to develop himself and learn new things.
The 19-year-old is relatively inexperienced, as he made only 32 professional appearances in his entire career. Having said that, Mor is a regular for his national team, where he already managed 12 caps. So his international experience could be vital for Southampton when they face tough teams in the Premier League.
Moreover, he can also be a great option for the Premier League outfit even from the bench as he always looked dangerous coming in as a sub for the final phase of the games playing for Dortmund.
Yes it’s a fact that Emre Mor has clearly failed to rise up to the expectation in his first season at Dortmund but maybe the jump from a Danish Superlig newbie to playing in one of Europe’s biggest club was a little too big for a player so young. So moving to Southampton on loan will be ideal for Mor, not just because he can learn more things while playing in a completely different league, but also for the fact that Southampton can assure first team opportunities for the Turkish whizkid. Southampton should also look to make sure they have the option the buy him permanently if the loan move becomes a success for both parties.
