Gianluigi Donnarumma, the young Italian goalkeeper, has confirmed that he will not be extending his stay at his current club AC Milan and will be on the move this summer. Though there has been no confirmation about his probable destination in the next season, speculations are rife that the Azzurri shot stopper might be on his way to Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid have been in dire need of a good goalkeeper, despite having Keylor Navas playing a quite decent role between the crossbars for the Galacticos in the last season. A number of names have been linked with the Spanish La Liga champions in the last few months, including the likes of Manchester United star David de Gea and Premier League champions Chelsea shot-stopper, Thibaut Courtois. However, the shocking move from the young Italian goalkeeper has undoubtedly put him in pole position to be the much sought after shot stopper for Los Blancos in the next season.
Th18-year-old has been considered as one of the most highly regarded goalkeepers in the current scenario and has been playing on a regular basis for the AC Milan senior side since 2015. A livewire between the posts for the Rossoneri, the youngster is destined to become one of the world’s best goalkeepers in the near future, emulating his predecessor and the Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon.
The AC Milan hierarchy held a press conference, which was rather hasty, to declare officially about the 18-year old Italian shot stopper’s decision to part ways with them for the next season. Donnarumma’s current contract sees him stay with the Rossoneri till 2018. However, there is a good possibility that the ex-Napoli youth side star make an exit in the next season to associate with the current Champions League winners Real Madrid.
The club director of AC Milan, Marco Fassone, has said that they are very much disheartened by the decision of Donnarumma. The decision was conveyed to them by the young shot stopper’s agent Mino Raiola. He also added that a number of their player’s future have to be restructured now, as they were made with Donnarumma being at the centre of them. However, he added, Milan will move on.
Real Madrid have been looking for the right option to replace their current goalkeeper Keylor Navas in the next season, and they have got their eyes on the Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea. However, it will need them to cough up some serious cash to bring in the Spaniard, in comparison to Donnarumma, whom they can now easily target.
