Newcastle United have clawed their way back into the Premier League for the next season after spending the last season in the Championship. The Magpies are well aware of the stern challenges that await them in the next term when they face some of the biggest clubs and have already started their preparations to build a team which can cope well with them.
Rafa Benitez, the man in charge at Newcastle United, has been handed the responsibility of choosing players to strengthen the side for the next season and has got a number of players, both young and experienced, who he has been monitoring for some time now. One such player is the Liverpool ace Lucas Leiva, who has a good experience of playing under the Spaniard when he was the coach of the Merseyside club.
It has been a decade for the Brazilian midfielder playing for the Reds and he has been an integral part of their line-up since his arrival at the club in 2007. The midfielder, who is more suited to play a central role and act as a defensive screen in front of the back four, has played a staggering 346 games for Liverpool and has been one of the most prominent figures in the club as well as the Premier League.
Reports claim that there is a reunion on the cards between the Spanish manager Benitez and the Brazilian ace Lucas since their days together at the Merseyside club, as Benitez has been talking with Liverpool about a potential transfer of the 30-year-old in the next summer transfer window. In fact, it was the Spaniard who brought Lucas from the Brazilian club side Gremio in 2007 and made him one of the most trustworthy first team player at his then club Liverpool.
It has also been reported that Lucas might look forward to making a move back to Brazil, now that his contract is also on the verge of expiry after the current month and has a very slim chance of being renewed by the Reds. However, there might be the problem regarding wages, which a Brazilian club might not be able to pertain to their players and allow the veteran to stay back in England.
Lucas Leiva has been much appreciative about his former boss for providing him with the opportunity to play in the Premier League for a considerable amount of time in his career. Newcastle United can use the reunion, if it happens, to make the team stronger in the forthcoming season.
