Mauricio Pochettino has done a decent job in his time at the White Hart Lane but he will have a tough time this summer in luring top transfer targets to the club, with the biggest clubs in Europe all scouting for top talent. The Argentine has been looking at some decent players to add to his squad and one player he is now constantly linked with is Turkish teenager Cengiz Under.
Playing for Turkish outfit Basaksehir, the 19-year old has established himself as one of the most exciting talents in his country. He seems to be ready to take the next step in his career and the club vice-president Mustafa Saral has today confirmed that the Spurs are one of the five clubs monitoring his situation for a move this summer.
A versatile player capable of playing on the left side of the midfield, Under is slowly growing into a winger who can create chances in the final third consistently. An excellent crosser of the ball, the 19-year-old is quick over the turf and his acceleration is what makes him hard to mark.
With gifted technique to go with it, he is a player who is destined for stardom and having already made four national appearances for Turkey, is also gaining some much-needed experience at the highest level.
He is however not adept at using his strength to hold off the ball and is also a liability in the air but at 19, he is sure to improve and Pochettino believes that he is the right man for his squad next season. The Argentine manager is known for spending on young talent who can come good in years to come and Under fits the bill perfectly.
The likes of Moussa Sissoko and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou have failed to have an impact on the first team in the previous season and could be pushed out of the squad this summer. But Under is not expected to be a first-team player anytime soon as Pochettino will also want to spend on a world class, established star who can walk into the first team and help them compete at the highest level next season.
The Turkish international is an exciting player who can make things happen and could be the perfect fit for Pochettino to try and compete in the domestic cup competitions. It will be a perfect way for a 19-year old Turkish star to start his career in England. But do you think Pochettino will lure him to London this summer?
