Leicester City have completed the signing of Hull City defender, Harry Maguire who will join up with the Foxes after getting demoted with the Tigers in the last season.
If reports are to be believed, Leicester have agreed to pay £17m for the Tigers’ defender. They will initially pay £12m and if the situation demands a further £5m will be added to the deal.
Maguire has had a solid season as he put on an emphatic display for the Tigers. In what has been an erratic season, Maguire’s strong display in the backline was one of the strong points in Hull’s campaign. But despite a last-gasp attempt by former manager Marco Silva, Hull couldn’t survive relegation.
When a club gets demoted, a large number of the players move to other clubs in the top tier in an attempt to make themselves available in the limelight and it seems Maguire could be the first of many to depart the club.
Maguire joined Hull from boyhood club Sheffield United in 2014 for a fee of just £2.5. He was one of the most crucial players as the Tigers made their way to the top tier. He was also adjudged the player of the season in 2016/17 season.
Hull are going to make a significant profit from his sale although Sheffield United inserted a 10% sell on clause and they are also set for a windfall. Newly appointed manager Leonid Slutsky will use this money to bring players to strengthen the squad.
Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare has recently been handed a new contract to be the full time and Maguire would be his first signing. The Foxes endured a tough season and Shakespeare would be hoping for a renewed start.
Wes Morgan and Robert Huth were unable to replicate their form. Age will be a factor in the coming season and in a bid to freshen up the defence, Shakespeare is understood to have sanctioned the move for Maguire.
A very composed defender, Maguire’s composure on the ball is pretty commendable and apart from his defensive attributes he has the habit to chip in with useful goals. The England U-21 international is tipped to be the next big thing for the Three Lions although he is yet to get his first senior call-up.
It seems Leicester have landed a bargain deal and Maguire could emerge one of the most efficient players in the Premier League next season.
