Newcastle United have made their way back into the Premier League after spending one season in the Championship, and are looking forward to some top flight football action in the forthcoming season. The Magpies are well aware of the fact that they will need a team strong enough to take on the big name clubs in the Premier League and are eyeing a number of players who can help them make a good impression in their first season after the comeback.
Among the long list of players who have been monitored by the Magpies to be brought into the side this summer, Scotland international Tom Cairney has been right on top. The 26-year-old is currently playing for Championship side Fulham and has been one of the most influential players of the season for his club in the recently concluded season.
Though Fulham did qualify for the Championship playoffs, they were not able to get past the obstacle of Reading in the Semi final and will need to stay back in the Championship for the forthcoming season as well. That has been disappointing for the club as well their fans and players, but they have not given up at all, and are looking forward to making it into the playoffs in the next season, with a view to win it this time.
Newcastle have reportedly made a bid of £20 million for the influential midfielder, which has been rejected by Fulham. The club President Slavisa Jokanovic has said that their prized possession is not for sale to the Magpies or any other club, and he will make every possible effort to keep him at Craven Cottage in the seasons to come.
The player, Cairney, has also said that he does not have any intention to leave the club at the moment. The 26-year-old has also added that it is always alluring to have a chance to play in top flight football, but if it happens in his case, it will happen with no other club than Fulham.
Cairney is known for his exciting brand of football and has the ability to make pinpoint passes into the attacking third to set up his teammates in front of the goal. The Scottish international has been in fine form for Fulham throughout the recently concluded season, scoring a total of 13 goals in 51 appearances. He has also laid on 10 assists for his team during the season.
