Barcelona are considering options to make a move for Paris Saint Germain’s Marco Verratti. The Italian midfielder is reportedly very keen to leave the Parc des Princes in this summer. The Catalans are preparing a mammoth bid of €100m for the Italian midfielder to bring him to the Camp Nou.
Verratti is believed to have informed his club of his desire to leave. The Italian midfielder has been at the forefront of success since his move to the French club from Italian side Pescara in 2012. The midfielder has gone from strength to strength in the past few years and is now regarded among the top midfielders in the world.
Verratti still has four years to run on his contract so it would be a sort of difficult for the Spanish side to pull off a deal. The Catalans went through an unusual season as they fell behind in the race, both in the La Liga and Champions League. The Spanish giants are preparing for some massive changes in the squad and the plan to bring the Italian midfielder is a part of it.
Ernesto Valverde has been appointed the new coach after the departure for Luis Enrique and he will be looking forward to making some fruitful additions to the team. Barcelona are looking to bring in a long-term successor of Andres Iniesta as age has started to take a toll on his playmaking ability.
An imminent change hadn’t been a part of the plan but after the recent debacle, Barcelona hierarchy has started looking for alternate options and Verratti certainly fits the bill. The 24-year old’s key ability is to sit deep and steer the game from the centre of the pitch. A precise passer of the ball, he has that potential to break any kind of defence and also has avid defensive attributes.
In the last few years, a number of high-profile players have plied their trade for PSG with the likes of Thiago Motta, Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The owner of the club, Nasser El-Khelaifi is believed to be a very tough negotiator and the Blaugrana can only be able to rope him if they meet their demands.
But the one thing is that if the Catalans buy him by splashing this amount of money they will be unable to cater to their other requirements. But they certainly need some improvement in their side and Verratti could be the first of many.
