Manchester United are hoping to complete the signing of Alvaro Morata in the coming days as the Spaniard has reportedly agreed to terms with Manchester United. According to reports, United are ready to splash a whopping €73 million for the 24-year-old. Morata is slated to be the first summer signing of Jose Mourinho’s shopping list as the Portuguese gaffer has drawn up a list of a number of players as part of his revamp plan.
Morata has a difficult task to fit in as he will directly fill the shoes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic who has been released by Manchester United recently. Zlatan had a huge influence on the United side and emulating that would be very difficult for the youngster.
Morata’s goal scoring record speaks for himself. Despite making a limited number appearance for Real Madrid he has managed to notch up 20 goals in all competitions for Los Blancos. He has made his name in the Madrid side for late goals and had rescued the team a number of times after coming off the bench.
The 24-year-old is a seasoned finisher and is a prolific goal scorer. However, it is still not clear how Mourinho is planning to utilise him. Mourinho has deployed mostly 4-2-3-1 formation with Zlatan occupying the forefront place. But with Morata arriving we could see a bit of tweak in the formation and in the starting lineup.
4-3-3
Mourinho opted for this formation a number of times with Michael Carrick, Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera filling in the three midfield position. In this formation, Morata will have the luxury to combine with the two wingers. The Spaniard is a conventional number nine and if he receives adequate ball supply he can be very dangerous. Also, he has the added advantage of his height and the fullbacks and the wingers have to use this advantage by whipping in crosses into the penalty box.
4-2-3-1
Mourinho preferred to play with this formation. In this setup, Morata will be supported by two wingers and a number 10 who can use his delayed runs to the box to provide Morata with more support upfront.
4-4-2
The traditional old school tactics. In this tactics, he will be paired with another forward with the likes of Marcus Rashford who could bear the responsibility alongside him. Morata is especially effective when he has space to run and the deployment of another striker will give him an acre of spaces to use.
