Chelsea defender John Terry is on his way out from the club and if reports are to be believed, Bournemouth is his next destination. The Blues legend has already confirmed his departure from Chelsea but will continue playing in the Premier League for a different team.
Terry had an injury ravaged season and had managed only nine appearances in the Premier League. Despite being in the twilight of his career, the English centre-back seemed to have not given up and had hinted earlier that he could be still playing after leaving his beloved Chelsea.
The Cherries have already struck a deal with Jermain Defoe and it seems they are opting for experience instead of young energetic players to push their Premier League credentials. Defoe recently admitted he had fruitful talks with the Cherries and an announcement is imminent from the South Coast club.
Making a move for John Terry makes sense as Eddie Howe would be building his team surrounding these two stalwarts. The Cherries are expected to offer him wages in the tune of £100,000 a week which seems to be very lucrative for the 36-year-old defender. Eddie Howe had a chat with him regarding his transfer and it seems the veteran defender will play a pivotal role for them next season.
Bournemouth just concluded a great season where they have finished strongly in the ninth position. The stewardship of Howe particularly has been very promising for them as he led a youthful team this far. They were lacking in ample Premier League experience but with the signing of Terry and Defoe, Bournemouth are going to give the other teams a nightmare in coming season.
Newly promoted Brighton & Hove Albion had their eyes set on the player but Terry’s wage demand had forced them to back out from the deal. Being a manager is also on Terry’s mind but he continues to play at the highest level for a few more seasons and he wants to end his career in the top flight.
Like almost every other heavyweight player, Terry was also on the radar of Chinese clubs and Tianjin Quanjian was ready to offer him a deal worth almost double of what he will be getting at the Vitality Stadium. However, playing in the China would not be his priority although a number of Chelsea players with the likes of Ramires and Oscar are currently plying their trade in China.
