Southampton have just concluded a season that has been unsatisfying, to say the least for them. Reportedly, they are on the verge of sacking their current manager Claude Puel as an aftermath of the disappointing season and might look for someone who can inspire their team to a good season in the next term.
As per sources, Thomas Tuchel, the former coach of the German Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund might be the one to replace the Frenchman at Southampton in the next season. The German mastermind has been sacked recently by the German side and might be entitled to take over the charge at St Mary’s Park in the following season.
However, the German coach has also been linked with a move to fellow Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen for the next season, who are currently without any manager and are in dire need of a top class coach to guide them in the coming term.
Southampton had an injury filled season and lost a number of close matches during this season. The management has not been very much impressed with the way the matters have been handled by the French tactician and are looking to bring someone much more authoritative to take his place in the next season.
Reportedly, Arsenal was also linked with a move involving the ex-Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel for the next season in case their legendary coach Arsene Wenger calls it a day on his career at the Emirates Stadium. However, the French manager extended his contract with the Gunners for two more years to put all speculations surrounding his coaching career to an end.
The German manager ended his career with Borussia Dortmund in style, having clinched the DFB Pokal, in which his team beat Eintracht Frankfurt by two goals to one. He also helped his team to finish at the third place on the league table for the German Bundesliga this season, which was not considered to be good enough to save his job with Borussia Dortmund.
Taking up the job of the Southampton manager may come as a new challenge for Tuchel, as the South Coast club is in dire need of a coach who can guide them towards a better season in the next term. This season, the Saints have finished with their lowest points tally, which is just 46, in the last four years and have made them end the season in the eighth position on the Premier League table.
