Reading are weighing a move for Celtic right back Saidy Janko. The Championship outfit was very close to securing a move to the Premier League having qualified for the final but their dreams were shattered at the hands of Huddersfield Town as the latter got the better of them through penalties in the Championship Playoff final.
Janko was at Barnsley last season and helped them finish in a respectable 14th position. Janko was initially at Celtic before making a deadline day move to Oakwell. He also featured in the qualification of the Champions League for the Hoops but the Scottish Champions wanted him to have more game time to flourish.
Injury has been a hindrance to his development as the Swiss international has been limited to a mere 14 appearances in the Championship. But despite his limited game time, he has been able to trigger interest among a number of clubs including Reading and Sheffield Wednesday.
Janko scored on his debut for Barnsley against Wolves but his career has not shaped the way he had hoped. He will be looking for more game time and Reading certainly can provide him with that. Jaap Stam had this player scouted on several occasion and he could be one of his signings.
The Royals had a very spirited season and would be hoping to emulate the same form in the upcoming season. The level of competition in Championship has been very engaging these days and every club has to maintain a top quality side in order to meet the requirements of the English second tier.
At this tender age he has had enough of loan stints and if he wants to be in his prime, he has to find more regular game time. Stam has been searching a suitable backup to captain Chris Gunter as Tennai Watson is still not very reliable when it comes to dealing with the first team experience. So Janko could be a decent option for him.
Brendan Rodgers is relishing his stint at the Parkhead. The Scottish manager recently won a domestic treble with Celtic and has already started planning for the next season. But Janko wouldn’t be his first choice as he is already spoilt for options.
Sheffield Wednesday also are fighting for this youngster. They managed to finish in the playoff positions in this season and would be hoping to go one step further next season.
Celtic are unlikely to block his departure to the Royals as they already have sufficient reinforcements at their disposal.
