Everton is looking to revive their season next term by getting some new players in the team this summer. One such player, who has been one of the highly rated defenders in Europe in the current situation is Ruben Semedo, presently playing for the Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon.
The Toffees had a rough season this term, and most of its players were not able to make an impact on the team’s results that bogged them down to end the season in the seventh position in the League table. The defence has been an area of concern for the Merseyside club throughout the season, and now the man in charge at Goodison Park, Ronald Koeman, wants to make sure they have good enough players who can safeguard the backline against even the strongest of opposition.
Semedo has been one of the players who has been linked with some of the better clubs from all over Europe, namely Spanish side Villareal, apart from the likes of Premier League clubs Southampton and newly promoted Newcastle United for the next season. However, Everton look to be in pole position to bag the defender for the next term.
Semedo is known for his physical presence on the field, especially when it comes to winning aerial duels against the opponents. He has nothing less than a towering presence in the heart of his own defence and is a big threat from set piece situations in the opposition defence. Apart from good tackling and ball clearing abilities to avert any imminent danger for his team, he is also equipped with a great header that can put the ball in the back of the opposition net.
He also has the ability to intercept passes played between opposition players to restrict an attack from building in the attacking third. He also has exceptional ball controlling ability and great control on the ball.
Though his current club Sporting Lisbon is in no mood to let go off their prized possession in the forthcoming season, they might have to let go of the Portuguese defender looking at the kind of demand he has been generating given his superb performance in the Portuguese Primeira Liga this term. Reportedly, the brilliant centre-back has been rated at £15 million by his club for the potential suitors to bid for him in the summer.
But with a number of clubs chasing the player, Everton have to step on the gas and secure a deal for the player who should be pleased to be able to ply his trade in the Premier League.
