Manchester City have ended an unsatisfactory season given the high standards they have set for themselves in the English Premier League. The Citizens, though have finished in the top four to make it to the Champions League for the next season, have not been able to bring any silverware this term to the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City fans were hoping for a great season as one of the world’s best managers Pep Guardiola was brought into the club from the German Champions Bayern Munich last summer. However, it was a season that ended in a way the Spaniard would not have planned.
As an aftermath of the season, the ex-Barcelona manager has gone on to make a number of changes to his squad for the next season, with the axing of quite a few experienced campaigners from the team, not extending their contract with the club. The list includes the names of five players so far, along with the French right back Bacary Sagna.
Sagna came into Manchester City in 2014 from his former club Arsenal under the regime of Manuel Pellegrini as the head coach. He has played as a first choice right back in the City backline till the last season, only to be sidelined by Guardiola this term. The right winger Navas had taken his place in the side for the last few games, with the Spanish coach reportedly eyeing Tottenham player Kyle Walker for the new season.
Now that the veteran right back has been offloaded, he is looking for new options to stay back in the Premier League for the next season. At 34 years of age, the former Arsenal player is still going strong and hoping for a good season ahead with a new club.
With his departure from Manchester City, a number of clubs have already started their pursuit to bag the French international for the next season. Crystal Palace, reportedly, are considered to be the frontrunner to make Sagna a part of their squad, which can see the right back moving to the Selhurst Park this summer.
It has been a hard-fought season for the Eagles but they have successfully avoided relegation to continue their stint in the Premier League in the next season as well. With the departure of their coach Sam Allardyce, the South London club is looking to rebuild the team with a number of experienced players like the Bacary Sagna to avoid mishaps in the next season. So with other teams also looking to snap him up, Palace need to work hard and get this deal done quickly.
