Manchester City are eyeing another Monaco player as they are trying to rope in Thomas Lemar in this summer. Pep Guardiola is very keen to add some youthful presence to the side. He has already signed Bernardo Silva from the French outfit and is also working on the transfer of Benjamin Mendy.
Despite splashing money in the last summer, the Sky Blues have failed to earn a single piece of silverware in the season and that must have raised deep concerns for Pep Guardiola. It is the first time in his career that he has gone a whole season without lifting a single trophy and he does not intend to repeat it anytime soon.
Guardiola is ready to table a bid of £35m for the player who is reportedly also keenly watched by Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal. Arsene Wenger has a particular connection with French players and as a part of his summer spending, he wants to bring the talented winger to the Emirates.
The 21-year-old French international has been very crucial as Monaco dominated their way to the French domestic title beating the likes of Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain. Lemar laid on 17 goals and added another 14 goals in all competitions this term.
He arrived from Caen in 2015 for a paltry £3.4m but it seems the French club is looking to gain a substantial profit from his sale. The current youth bunch at Monaco has surprised everyone with their talent and it is quite confirmed that a number of players will be seen plying their trade in some of the biggest clubs in Europe the next season.
Monaco will be looking to keep the core of this team intact but with Bernardo Silva leaving already, they are certain to lose some more of their key players. Lemar predominantly plays on the left flank but he can also be used on the opposite flank. Pep already has Leroy Sane who has been a revelation but the departure of Nolito can open space for Lemar.
He still has two years left on his current contract but the temptation of playing under one of the best coaches in the modern era might give an edge to this move. Also, City would be in need of depth in every section to rotate the squad with ease as there will be the added pressure of the Champions League. City fans will be hoping for some fireworks in the next season and Lemar’s arrival would certainly add more fuel to it.
