Pedro Caixinha’s revolution at Rangers is going on in full swing with the manager having already acquired the services of Bruno Alves and Ryan Jack from Cagliari and Aberdeen respectively. The Portuguese is in no mood to take a halt as he aims to bring the glory days back to the club and if the latest reports are to be believed, Guadalajara’s midfielder Carlos Pena is all set to make a move to the Ibrox Stadium for a handsome transfer fee of £2.2million.
In the season which just concluded, we witnessed Celtic turning out to be an absolute nightmare for their domestic opponents. Under the tutelage of Brendan Rodgers, the Celts brutally bulldozed past their opponents and went on to clinch the domestic treble.
Frankly speaking, Celtic seemingly appeared to be miles ahead of their rivals such as Aberdeen and Rangers and it would take monumental efforts from the other Scottish sides to reach the standards which the Hoops have set.
Caixinha is doing the needful and is leaving no stone unturned to get the deals done quite early and considering that Pena would be their most expensive signing since 2010, the Gers have placed their sights on a decent commodity. A youth product of Pachuca, the 27-year-old spent most of his career with Liga MX outfit, Club Leon and despite having signed for Guadalajara in 2015, he returned to Leon on loan for the second half of the campaign after being with the Goats for a year.
Nicknamed ‘Gullit’ for his striking resemblance to the Dutch legend, Pena is a midfielder who is very comfortable on the ball and possesses a tendency to bang goals for his employers.
He commands a strong presence in the middle of the park with his solid physicality and ability to read the game and is capable enough to ply his trade on the left-hand side of the midfield as well. Moreover, Pena is a matured player and has the technical edge to play for a big club like the Gers.
The Mexican international, who has accumulated 19 caps with the national side, can be one of the biggest assets for the former Al-Gharafa boss if he is stationed behind the striker which could completely redeem the creativity in him. He thrives on positional awareness, supports in the offensive as well as the defensive endeavours of the side and has the physique to face the animosity of Scottish football. The Light Blues were short of ideas as well as a Plan B last season and Pena might be someone who could do wonders for them next season.
