Everton have ended this season on an unsatisfactory note in the Premier League and even though they secured the 7th spot, Koeman would have wanted a stronger finish after a fantastic second half of the season. This is despite heroic performances from their lead striker Romelu Lukaku, who ended the season as the second highest scorer after Harry Kane and good performances from star midfielder Ross Barkley.
Other than these two, there was no one who could have given good support to the team and revive their season. A number of players showed promise in the start but later on were not able to continue their good form and take the Merseyside club to the glory of finishing in the top four this season. Three such players are-
Aaron Lennon-
The England midfielder has disappointed for the Merseyside club. He failed to impress on the field and eventually lost his place in the team. He made only 13 appearances in the season and scored just a single goal for his team. The 30-year-old Englishman has always been known to give his all for whichever team he plays for and make something out of a nothing situation with his prowess. However, that did not happen this season and the dejected midfielder was found far from his known self on the pitch in whatever appearances he made for Everton and turned out to be a complete dud for his club. He will surely bounce back and will have a better campaign next year.
Yannick Bolasie-
The Congolese winger failed to make an impact on the team this season. In the presence of Romelu Lukaku who was in superb form, the 28-year-old was handed a supporting role, but was far from his best and eventually was sidelined with a serious injury that kept him on the bench for the rest of the season. He made only 16 appearances in total for the Merseyside club and scored just a single goal to make the situation worse for him after being brought in from his former club Crystal Palace during the last summer transfer window.
Tom Cleverly-
The Englishman was brought in from Manchester United by Everton with the view to strengthen their side’s midfield this season. However, he turned out to be an utter dud with the kind of performance he displayed on the pitch during the season. He made only 10 appearances for the Toffees and was eventually loaned out to Premier League side Watford in January.
