Tottenham Hotspur are a few steps away from signing exciting youngster Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham. The 17-year-old is believed to be the next hot prospect in English football as he is attracting a host of clubs with his talent. Spurs seem to have won the race as Mauricio Pochettino is lining up to add another young player to his youthful squad.
Sessegnon recently turned 17 and is now eligible for a professional contract. A product of the Fulham youth setup, he has been on a scholarship contract at the Craven Cottage and has earned plaudits for his excellent performance in the Championship. In a season where Fulham have been able to reach the playoffs, the player has been duly rewarded for his performances as he got a place in the PFA team of the year.
Blessed with a great attacking ability, his potential will be tested under the tutelage of Pochettino. The Gaffer’s strategy is immensely inspired by wingbacks and Sessegnon could be ideal to this setup.
Danny Rose has struggled this season with injuries and also his demand of a steep wage hike is one of the reasons why the North London club is deeply chasing this player. Rose has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Pochettino has to make sure there is sufficient balance to the side should he depart. Ben Davies rose to the occasion this term as he ably deputised in the absence of Rose and Sessegnon could take his position next season.
Liverpool have been also linked with the player. Klopp’s search of a left back continues as he wants to kick start the next season with a proper defender on the left flank. James Milner has been filling in as a makeshift defender and has done his duties pretty well but keeping in mind the Champions League, the German wants to add an energetic player to the side and Sessegnon fits the bill perfectly.
Fulham has set a price of £15m but they will try to keep him at the club. Paying that much of money for a for a teenager who is not even proven in the Premier League might be a gamble at this time but Pochettino is ready to make the stage ready for the next season. With Liverpool backing out from the transfer it’s now Spurs’ deal to lose. Daniel Levy is famous for this type of hard negotiations and we can expect Spurs to make the signing as soon as possible.
