After a not so comprehensive season, Barcelona will undergo a complete makeover of their transfer policy as their acquisitions in the past couple of transfer windows have not been able to make an impact on the team. Arda Turan is one of the few players who hasn’t been able to create the kind of influence for which he was bought. The Turkish playmaker arrived at the Nou Camp in 2015 from Atletico Madrid but hasn’t done justice to his place. He is set to move elsewhere and Barcelona are expected to release him.
Amid much expectation, the Turkish winger came at Barcelona to fulfil his prospects but his ambitious transfer to one of the most renowned clubs seems to have ended in a failure. Barcelona announced Ernesto Valverde as their new coach after the departure of Luis Enrique and he will enforce a new environment at the club. Turan does not know whether he will be a part of his plan or not.
Arsenal are reportedly interested in the player as Arsene Wenger has been tracking him for quite a while. Speculations have been mounting over the future of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mesut Ozil and Wenger will know the importance of a highly rated attacker.
Turan also will be perfect for his new 3-4-2-1 set up as the 30-year-old also contributes defensively. He has started 14 games in La Liga this season and has mostly played in the shadows of Neymar who has had a pretty dominating season.
Despite the limited game time, the player has managed to rack up 13 goals and seven assists in this season which might not sound very exciting when you are playing for Barcelona but it shows that he definitely has the capability if given proper game time.
Turan rejected a multi-million pound move to China in January as he wants to focus on his football. The Gunners were heavily linked with the player but talks didn’t materialise. But now Arsenal are ready to renew their interest in the former Atletico Madrid attacker. A fee in the region of £20m should be enough to tempt him for a move to the North London club.
Turan might have failed to replicate his success at Barcelona but there are no second thoughts about his talent. He would be more than happy to join a Premier League side. He has three years to run on his contract with the Spanish giant but that won’t be a problem if he decides to quit.
