The 2016-17 season turned out to be a thoroughly productive one for Celtic as they clinched the domestic treble and erected the flag of complete domestic superiority. It was indeed relishing seeing the manner in which Brendan Rodgers marshaled his troops and derived the best of what he had at his disposal on every frontier. Rodgers masterminded the construction of something magical and in the coming seasons, finding a strong footing in the Champions League should be held with utmost regard by him.
One of the most intriguing aspects in the way the Bhoys went on to discharge their tasks was how their former Liverpool and Swansea City manager infused a perfect blend of youth and experience.
Players like Moussa Dembele, who banged goals left right and centre, have already become a subject of speculation for a handful of European heavyweights and owing to the fact that the Glasgow giants do not possess the strongest of financial muscles, they might be tempted to sell some of them. Irrespective of whether they sell or not, it will be crucial for Rodgers to cultivate more competition for bagging a place in the starting line-up.
The Hoops were closely monitoring the progress of Henry Onyekuru, the Eupen forward, but owing to his price tag of around £7million, the interest faded to an extent. However, it has been reported lately that Celtic are mulling over the prospect of luring him to the Celtic Park during the summer transfer window as they want to beef up their attacking arsenal.
Onyekuru has been absolutely prolific in the Jupiler League this season, scoring 11 goals in 10 appearances for the Belgian top division side and no wonder why he has fallen on the radar of top quality sides.
The 19-year-old has inked his name in the good books of the football fraternity, and his quick pace and ability to find spaces for himself in the final third are his strongest suits. Onyekuru is skilful, gets into the right areas at the right moments and takes on the opposition’s defenders with relative ease.
His tall stature and ability to blast forward during the counter-attacks make him an appealing commodity. Most importantly, he is a calm and composed player up front and is exceptionally clinical in the penalty area and it is about time for him to venture into new endeavours, somewhere like the Scottish top division with Celtic, and earn himself more recognition in days to come.
