Arsenal are on the verge of making their first summer signing as Sead Kolasinac edges closer towards a move to the Emirates. The 23 year old Bosnian international is a free agent currently and set to be the first transfer for Arsene Wenger in this summer. The likes of Manchester City and AC Milan also were in the line to entice the player but the Gunners hijacked the deal and an announcement is imminent.
Wenger won his record 7th FA Cup in his career by defeating Chelsea 2-1 in the recent final. No manager has ever won this number of FA Cups in the history. However, this is the first time in two decades that the Gunners will not be playing in the Champions League, after their failure to grab a spot in the top four in the English Premier League. But they will be pretty happy having lifted the FA Cup for a record 13th time.
The North London club started this campaign well but in the later stages, they seemed to have jeopardised their strategy. Like most other seasons, they failed to get past the last 16 stage of the Champions League as Bayern Munich mauled them 10-2 across the two legs.
Kolasinac’s inclusion will bring a lot of hope for the Gunners supporter. The 23-year-old has already shown in the Bundesliga what he is capable of. He finished off the season with mindboggling stats racking up nine assists and has complimented them with three goals. His arrival is a hint that this could be the end of Kieran Gibbs in a Gunners shirt. The left back has fallen in the pecking order and might leave the club at the end of this season.
Kolasinac would give Wenger a number of options to ponder with. The new transformation to a three-man defence saw Nacho Monreal shifted to a more defensive role as he has been a part of the back three and has actually done pretty well. But his lack of pace and agility have been a reason for concern and Kolasinac could be used in this new role. He has the knowledge of playing in a back three and his physicality and pace will give this area a new dimension.
Ha can also be deployed on the left side of the defence as a more offensive wingback. The departure of Gibbs will vacant a role in that position and we expect Monreal to be an automatic choice in the central defence. Kolasinac is only 23 years of age and his pace and energy will add a lot more to this Arsenal starting lineup. A player like him will be an asset to any team and it seems Wenger has sealed an excellent future signing.
