Bernardo Silva has completed his move from AS Monaco as he signed in the favour of Manchester City. The Portuguese attacking midfielder has been linked with the club for quite a while and it is reported that that the player has arrived at the city to finalise his signing. He is the first signing of Pep Guardiola in the summer as the Spaniard is expected to spend heavily in the transfer market.
The 22-year-old is touted to be one of the best strike forces in coming days and investing in him will be a perfect value of money for Pep. Silva has been one of the Architect’s of Monaco’s thrilling season as they pipped Paris Saint-Germain to the title. Monaco also ousted Manchester City in the pre-quarters of the Champions League as he led the team from the front. City Reportedly shelled out a sum of £43m to the French club for this Portuguese sensation.
City already have a number of attacking talents with the likes of Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and David Silva and the addition of this attacker will give them a head start on the other teams. Silva has the perfect blend of creativity and pace and his style of play has been compared with the likes of David Silva who has been in excellent form for the Sky Blues. Bernardo can play across the front three and will be a likely upgrade to Raheem Sterling.
Silva appeared in 37 games and contributed to Monaco with eight goals and nine assists. Manchester United were also heavily linked with the Portuguese as Jose Mourinho was very keen to take the player under his folds. But Pep has won the battle. He already has his hands full and the attacking arrays of Silva will be an added attraction to the City lineup next season.
Silva also made his international debut for Portugal and has featured 15 times for them. He was in the squad for Euro 2016 but a sudden injury hampered his plan. He has become the third most expensive signing by City after Kevin De Bruyne and John Stones as City paid a whopping £54m and £47.5 m for the players.
Silva impressed against City in Champions League and that could be the moment when Pep probably made his minds to rope in the player. However, his inclusion in the team will reduce the game time for Sterling. It remains to be seen how Pep decides to use the talented playmaker.
