Manchester City has successfully concluded another season in the Premier League and has clinched a place in the top four to book a place in the Champions League next term. However, it has been a performance which has been far from satisfactory for Pep Guardiola’s men and they are looking to make amends for a season which has been devoid of any silverware.
Manchester City has already left a number of their players in the last few days including the likes of Bacary Sagna, Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy, Navas and goalkeeper Willy Caballero which might be an aftermath of the disappointing season faced this term. It goes without saying that they are in dire need of reinforcements to strengthen their side for the next season, especially a good goalkeeper who can be a replacement for the 35-year-old Caballero.
Speculations are rife that the Citizens are looking to bring in the young Brazilian shot-stopper Ederson from Portuguese side Benfica following his brilliant performance in the Portuguese Superliga this season. The 23-year-old goalkeeper has been one of the major factors between the crossbars for his current side and has played a crucial role in making them the Portuguese Superliga champions.
Manchester City has been going through a rough patch given the poor performance of their two goalkeepers Claudio Bravo and Willy Caballero and are in need to bring in a better shot stopper for the next season, with Ederson completely fitting their bill.
The Citizens have been sceptical of their goalkeeper Bravo’s form in the current season, as he has conceded too many goals to put his club in a spot of bother. As per sources, the Chilean shot-stopper has totally failed to impress at the Etihad Stadium this season and might be replaced by the Brazilian goalkeeper between the sticks in the forthcoming season.
Reportedly, the Brazilian goalkeeper’s brilliant form has attracted a number of interests from big clubs from all over Europe. Manchester City have been looking to make a bid of £30 million for Ederson in the summer to bag him for the next season. However, as per sources, Ederson has a release clause on him which amounts to £39 million, put on him by the Portuguese club Benfica.
The situation has been made a tad complicated by the fact that Ederson’s former club Rio Ave is also involved in the deal as an owner of fifty percent of any contract done with him and will thus receive half of the transfer fee.
