Leicester City are reportedly chasing Arsenal right-back Mathieu Debuchy. The French defender is a sure shot departure in this summer and King Power Stadium could be his potential destination. The 31-year-old defender hasn’t played at all for the Gunners this season and will be gunning for a move elsewhere. Marseille had their bid rejected in January and will reportedly table a bid for the French defender once again.
Debuchy had very limited opportunities for the Gunners as he mostly has been left in the dugout. He even had a number of appearances for the U-23 side but Wenger considered him unfit to be on the first team. Barring 16 minutes of action against Bournemouth he hasn’t featured in the English top flight although he was injured most of the time.
Leicester have had their problems this season in that position as Danny Simpson performed very poorly throughout the entire season. They didn’t have any proper backups and Simpson had to be deployed in almost every match. Marseille have been tracking his movement and might offer him a way out from the Emirates. The French club have long been admirers of the player. Debuchy has fallen in the pecking order as he has been the third choice after Hector Bellerin and Carl Jenkinson.
The fullback is slightly inclined towards a move to the King Power as it would help him to stay in the Premier League. Arsenal will definitely listen to offers for him who still has two years left on his contract. Debuchy arrived at the club in 2014 from Newcastle United but never has shown the calibre to prosper at the Emirates. Leicester would be searching for reinforcements and Debuchy could be a solution to their problem. He will offer some serious competition to Danny Simpson who has been pretty ordinary.
The French player had the chance to move to Manchester United as Luis Van Gaal was searching a right back and had contacted him over a possible transfer but Wenger blocked the move and as a consequence of the situation, he publicly criticised his manager. After this situation, the relationship between the two has downgraded and Wenger will have to find a way to offload him. However, there won’t be a dearth of offers but he has to make sure he chooses the right club.
Debuchy could have been a solid backup for Bellerin but his knack of getting injured has been a problem. Regardless of the current situation, this could be his last season at the club.
