Chris Smalling was the Player of the season for Manchester United last term and had played a great role in making the Red Devils qualify for the Europa League. However, this season the story has been different for the England defender, with his present club coach Jose Mourinho openly criticising him for his alleged lack of commitment on the pitch.
The centre-back has been out of favour under the Portuguese mastermind throughout the recently concluded season and might be offloaded in the next transfer window. Though the recent form of the English defender has not been much to be mentioned about, that should not be a detriment for him to find the right suitor in the during the next transfer window.
Reportedly, West Ham United have made a bid for the Manchester United centre-back to bag him for the next season. Slaven Bilic, the current coach of West Ham United has been handed another season in charge and he is desperate to turn things around for the club in the next season. He is looking to make an impact by bringing in a number of players who can help his squad become stronger for the next season.
Performance wise, the Hammers have been through a pretty dismal season this term. One of the major problems for them has been the defence, and Bilic is determined not to leave any loose ends this season for his opponents to take advantage of next term. They are thus interested in bringing in someone like Chris Smalling in order to strengthen their defence for the next season and play some good football to make a mark in the Premier League, finishing at a better position from that of their twelfth place ending in the forthcoming season.
Manchester United are also looking to revamp their squad for the next season. They are keen to bring in Michael Keane from Burnley to replace Smalling in the heart of their defence, thus offloading the centre back in the next season.
Jose Mourinho, the new boss of Manchester United, who took charge of the team last summer, has been sceptical of the defensive lapses of the current squad. Now that Manchester United have made it through to the Champions League for the next season, the Portuguese tactician will be looking to avoid any kind of loopholes to make it a good season for the Red Devils, with the possibility of offloading a number of players from the current squad including Chris Smalling.
