Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa is reportedly on the radar of Manchester United as Jose Mourinho’s search for new exciting talent continues. The Brazilian’s game time has steadily reduced this time and he is reconsidering his future with the German champions. The 26-year-old has fallen down the pecking order this season as Carlo Ancelotti has mostly preferred Frank Ribery on the left flank and Robben on the right.
United are expected to invest in the summer transfer window heavily as Jose Mourinho needs to reshape his entire team. Despite splashing the cash in the last summer, the Red Devils failed to put up a show in the Premier League which should be their first priority.
Costa would provide the much-needed pace and depth to the United side. The absence of a proper wide man has been one of United’s weak points and Mourinho is slated to make some changes regarding this area of concern. Costa is an out and out winger and can play on either wing. He doesn’t fear to take on defenders and has the ability to drift past a number of players with utmost ease.
Costa started only 14 games this season. After his stupendous success in the last season, everyone would have been expecting to see much more of him but the form of Frank Ribery jeopardised the plot. The French man has been a revelation this season and mostly due to his devastating form, Costa has been left rotting on the bench.
United’s victory in the Europa League final could bring life into Costa’s career. They have the license to compete in the Champions League and he might give a thought regarding potential transfer to the Old Trafford outfit with guaranteed participation in Europe.
United have the cash to spend as the owner are ready to flex their financial muscle in the transfer market. Juventus are also reportedly one of the possible suitors for him. He will be a great addition to the Italian side and will be a perfect fit into the 4-2-3-1 system. The Brazilian expressed his frustration over his lack of game time and could hand the German side a transfer request. Bayern bought him for almost €30m from Shakhtar Donetsk and would like to recoup most of the money. Mourinho knows the potential of Costa and wouldn’t hesitate to invest such a huge amount of money. And after the euphoria of the Europa win and the hope of a far better season, this move looks quite plausible all of a sudden.
