Gylfi Sigurdsson has been one of the players who has played a huge role in saving the current season for his current club Swansea City. His brilliant leadership and efficient display of skills on the pitch has helped his side avoid relegation in the next season and stay back in the Premier League for another term.
However, it is looking quite difficult for Swansea to keep hold of their main man in the new season. A number of clubs have already approached the Icelandic midfielder to bag him for the next season, with Everton being the front-runner in the race to secure his services.
Reportedly, Everton has made a bid worth £25 million for the Swansea star man. The two clubs are also speculated to have agreed on the deal, however, there might still be a problem with the Icelandic midfield maestro’s salary that he has demanded to make a move out to Goodison Park in the next season.
It has been reported that Sigurdsson has been holding out for a weekly salary package of £120,000 per week if he has to make a move to the Merseyside club next summer. This demand of his, according to the sources, might play spoiler in his potential move from Swansea to Everton in the next season.
Sigurdsson is currently on £80000 per week salary package at the Liberty Stadium and has been one of the most influential players in the Swansea squad this season. Everton are looking to negotiate the deal that will involve the agreement to the terms put down by the midfield marshal.
The Icelandic midfielder was instrumental in steadying the ship for the Swans in the recently concluded season, having scored 13 goals throughout for them, along with a number of assists for his teammates to make them achieve the target to stay back in the Premier League for another season.
It goes without saying that Swansea is looking to keep hold of their prized possession for the season to come. Reportedly, his current club manager Paul Clement has said that he wants his star man to stay back at the Liberty Stadium, as he might find it quite difficult to settle in at the big clubs, as he did during his two years stay at Tottenham before joining the Swans.
However, with the deal looking almost done for the Toffees to bag the Icelandic midfielder for the next season, it is very unlikely for him to stay put at Swansea City for another season.
