Manchester United are planning to replace David De Gea with AC Milan youngster Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to various reports. Real Madrid have been fighting hard to secure a move for De Gea and reports claim that a deal has been agreed between the two and that the Los Blancos will pay a sum of £65m for the Spanish shot-stopper this summer. Madrid failed to sign him back in 2015 when a certain ‘fax machine’ jeopardised the transfer but this time they are looking far more conscious and a move seems imminent.
Mourinho will go into the transfer market in an attempt to turn United into one of the European superpowers. When it comes to goalkeepers Old Trafford has always been a place of brilliance as the likes of Edwin Van Der Sar, Peter Schmeichel and Fabian Barthez have all played for the club in their top form and following their footsteps, David De Gea has been the preferred choice for the Red Devils. Barring some early hiccups, the Spaniard has rarely had a bad game in a United shirt.
Donnarumma,18, broke into the scene last year and since then has been a tough nut in between the sticks. The Italian teenager is on his way to becoming the successor of Gianluigi Buffon and has already made his Italian national team debut at this tender age.
While Milan will be hardly negotiating for him, the fact that he has only one year left on his contract might pave way for a move this summer. A product of the Milan academy the 18-year-old is definitely one of the hottest prospects right now and a number of clubs are ready to rope him in.
Manchester City also have him on their shopping list as they are destined to sign at least one promising keeper. Pep Guardiola is not happy with the way both Claudio Bravo and Willy Caballero have performed especially Bravo, who has endured a tough spell and the manager wants to inject some competition into the side by including Donnarumma who could be an instant starter.
A paltry fee of £20m should be enough to make him switch his allegiance to England. He could be a long-term replacement for De Gea and the Milan coach Vincenzo Montella’s recent comment should encourage the United Hierarchy.
The gaffer said that it is a very crunch time for the youngster and he has to make a conclusive decision. The teenager reportedly told his close friends that he is ready to make the move and United will be very happy clinching the deal.
