Leicester City, contrary to their brilliant season last term, had a rather dismal one this time around. They have failed to impress in the season of defending their title and with almost all their star players making no big impact throughout the campaign, the Foxes have ended their season in the twelfth position on the Premier League Table.
Leicester have shown a significant amount of deterioration in almost all aspects of the game, with their defenders having no clue against their opponents for most of the time throughout the season. Both the centre backs, Wes Morgan and Robert Huth have been completely out of form this term and problems have piled up at the back with no feasible solution to them.
However, latest reports suggest that the Foxes are looking to make most of their new season in the Premier League and are already looking to bring in players who can strengthen the squad for the next season. One such player is the Middlesbrough captain Ben Gibson, who stood tall in the Boro defence but was unable to save the season for his club.
Given his form and his leadership qualities in the Premier League campaign this term for Middlesbrough, the English defender has been able to attract interests from a number of big clubs in the Premier League. Now, with his current club being relegated to the Championship for the next season, there is a big possibility that the English international might join any of the teams bidding for him in the summer.
Reportedly, the centre-back has been rated at £20 million by Middlesbrough and might look to leave the club, given that playing in the Championship might jeopardise his international career with the England national team. It will be the end of an era for the mainstay of Boro defence if he leaves the side, having made 152 appearances for his club since his arrival in 2009.
Other teams are monitoring the situation involving Middlesbrough and their captain. However, in the current situation, Leicester City or West Bromwich Albion are looking to be the favourite to bag the player during the summer transfer market.
Leicester City might have to let go of their influential captain and defender Wes Morgan who has been tracked by the newcomers of the Premier League Newcastle United to bring him into their side for the next season in an attempt to revamp the side. Given the possibility of the veteran defender leaving the side, the Foxes might look to bring in Gibson to hold their defence together.
