It has been a rather dismal season for Leicester City this term, after a glorious season that saw them win the Premier League for the first time in their history, beating the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea to it. However, this time around they have ended their season at the twelfth position on the League table and will face difficulty in holding back some of their main players like striker Jamie Vardy, midfielder Riyad Mahrez and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.
Reportedly, Everton are ready to make a bid to bag the Danish goalkeeper for the next season. The Merseyside club has been in dire need of a top class shot stopper between the sticks for quite a long time and are counting on the Foxes ace to join their team as a viable solution to their goalkeeping problems.
Everton have originally been much interested in bringing in the Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford during the next summer transfer window, owing to the latter’s relegation to the Championship in the next season. However, given the huge price quoted by Sunderland to let go of his team’s prized possession, Everton might look to abandon their plan of roping in the English International and concentrate on getting Schmeichel for the next season.
Reportedly, the Black Cats have demanded a whopping £30 million for their highly rated shot stopper to leave for Goodison Park in the summer. Everton is, however, looking to spend not more than £10 million on the transfer of the goalkeeper. With things having come to a standstill, the Merseyside club is expected to leave the pursuit for the England international and make a move for the 30-year old Danish goalkeeper during the next transfer window.
The Danish goalkeeper has also been linked with a move to Manchester United, a club that is well known to be the pinnacle of the career of his father Peter Scmeichel. The Red Devils might have to let go of their brilliant shot stopper David de Gea in the summer to Real Madrid and are looking to bring in Kasper Schmeichel as a replacement for the Spaniard.
Manchester City also faced goalkeeping woes in the recently concluded season and are looking to make changes in their squad by bringing someone like Schmeichel who can ensure them a good season as far as goalkeeping is concerned. Both their shot stoppers, Willy Caballero and Claudio Bravo have not been in the best of form between the sticks and might be offloaded during the summer transfer window.
