Despite being a notable player for the Nigerian national side, many Chelsea fans might still be unfamiliar with Kenneth Omeruo. The famous (err!) loan system of the London based outfit has one of the finest talents known to the football fraternity but is hardly even acknowledged by his parent club owing to the inclination of theirs as well as the other European superpowers to pile up their arsenal with superstars. Omeruo has embarked upon four loan spells ever since joining the Blues in the January transfer window of 2012 with his latest one being with Turkish Lig outfit Alanyaspor.
The 23-year-old has mustered 24 outings with the Alanya Oba Stadium based club, registering 1.4 tackles, 2.2 interceptions, 4.4 clearances and 0.8 blocks per game on an average in the process, apart from scoring 1 goal. His statistics have been impressive, so has been his consistent run of form and at this point of his career, and at this point of his career, he might be looking forward for a club which actually values his presence and chalks him in their tactical nous. Celtic’s Brendan Rodgers was reported to be his admirer while was the gaffer of Liverpool; so is it about time to renew his interest and lure him to the Celtic Park?
Predominantly a central defender, Omeruo is well equipped to ply his trade as a holding midfielder and at the right-back slot as well. He is unarguably a modern day defender who loves to play the ball out of the back, he is someone who has shown immense maturity with the ball over his career and aerially, he is quite stupendous.
Omeruo’s strong physique enables him to physically outclass his opposition and it has been observed time and again that he never refrains from getting into the tight areas and making sharp tackles and interceptions to save the blushes of his employers.
With Kolo Toure’s contract expiring in the summer and his likelihood of making an exit, signing someone like Standard Liege youth product would be a welcome addition to the club in order to elevate the existing level of competition as well as to inject steel to the backline of the Celts.
The Glasgow giants might have been able to erect a thumping domestic superiority but the continuance of the same in the upcoming seasons would hold paramount importance. Omeruo fits the bill very well and by snatching him from the Stamford Bridge, Rodgers would be able to keep the momentum, which he and his troops have constructed, up and running.
