Tottenham Hotspur finished their season with a thumping win over Hull City at the weekend and Mauricio Pochettino does not have too many days to ponder over his plans for the next season as the transfer window will be open in less than 45 days. The manager has been looking at a number of star players to bring to the Lane recently and one name that is getting closer is Kevin Gameiro.
Bookies Bet Victor have now cut down the odds on the Atletico Madrid striker join Tottenham Hotspur this summer and with Atletico Madrid failing to win a single trophy this season, he may well be tempted to leave the club this summer.
Having joined the Vicente Calderon just last summer from Sevilla, the French international has 16 goals and seven assists in all competitions this season. He has however, been used regularly from the bench and Gameiro is reportedly looking for regular first team action next season.
A genuine striker, the 30-year old is one of the best finishers in the La Liga at the moment and has been in tremendous form in the last couple of seasons in Spain. His strength and ability to hold on to the ball will attract Pochettino this summer and his threat from set-pieces will also come in handy.
The Spurs are expected to compete on all four fronts next season and need as much depth as they can acquire. English international Harry Kane is slowly growing into the best in Europe and is expected to be the first choice next season as well for the Spurs, but Gameiro is expected to be Pochettino’s first option after Kane.
At 30, the French star has gathered loads of experience that can not only help the Spurs in the fringe competitions but will also allow them an option from the bench in the league next season.
Kane needs a serious backup next season and Pochettino cannot go into the campaign with Vincent Janssen and Heung Min-Son covering for him yet again. And though the fans would have been excited by the links of Dries Mertens, Pochettino might settle with the Atletico Madrid man as he solves an impending problem at the club.
Gameiro is still a bit weak in the air and may not put in the hard yards but he is a genuine goal scorer, who can make opponents pay for every mistake, kind of like Harry Kane himself at the Lane. So surely Gameiro is a decent option for the Spurs.
