Swansea City are reportedly interested in hiring the services of Leeds United forward Chris Wood. The New Zealand international has been leading the pack for the Whites in the Championship this term as he had almost led them to the playoffs. But due to their awful performances in the last few matches they were denied a place in the top six playoffs spot. Wood has scored 30 goals for the Whites in all competitions this season and his goalscoring abilities has attracted a number of clubs including Swansea.
Incidentally, the current manager of Leeds is Garry Monk who got the much recognition from his stint at the Liberty Stadium. One of the youngest managers in Europe currently Monk hogged the limelight lights with his bold and attacking style and even helped the Welsh club finishing eighth in the 2014-15 season. But in the following season, he was sacked following a dismal start after just 1 win in 11 matches.
West Ham United are Stoke City reportedly also planning to raid Elland Road for the £20m rated centre forward. Slaven Bilic had to fight hard with his limited striking options in this season and he doesn’t want to take the risk for another season. Wood could have had his maiden Premier League medal with Leicester City but he preferred to move to Leeds in 2015 in a £3m move. Leeds would be feeling the heat as they cannot see their most influential player being whisked away to the Premier League. Wood is also a member of the Championship team of this season and the Yorkshire side will now have a very hard fought task to keep the striker at the club.
The 25-year old’s contract is scheduled to expire in 2019 and he hasn’t renewed the terms yet. There was interest from other Chinese clubs in January but that wasn’t a big concern for him. Paul Clement would be in the need of a new striker although Fernando Llorente did play his part as he fired 14 goals in this season as the Swans stayed afloat for another season in the Premier League. But their goal scoring problem remains stagnant and Wood could be the solution to this problem. The Leeds striker has a good finishing touch and is particularly very quick while he has the ball at his feet. Wood and Gylfi Sigurdsson could be a deadly combination and it seems Swansea are doing all things to make this happen.
